70 000 gallon Rain Catchment System and Slow Sand Filter

When:

December 2006 - January 2007

Tank Material:

Ferrocement

Project Duration:

40 days

Recipients:

Entire Community - 3500 people 70 000 gallon tanks

A 70 000 gallon system was built in 40 days for $45 000.00. We excavated over 1000 tons of earth by hand in 6 days. We employed 16 full time laborers and masons. We had close to 100 volunteers. We built the entire system by hand with no electric tools or running water. We mixed 27 000 lbs of cement by hand. The system will yield an average of 250 000 gallons of water every year. It will give a clean water supply to the 800 children that attend the school as well as all of their families - approximately 3500 people. The best words to describe this project is "Miraculous."

" I have learned that with only will power and commitment, miracles can be made."
